Course description:
In this workshop, the student learns the basic structure and functioning of the vocal apparatus, and how best to take care of the voice. The course also aims at dispelling myths and teaches good vocal hygiene. In today's competitive world, there is tremendous stress and strain on the voice, many of which are unavoidable. The course will help the individual to offset these strains with guidance on healthy vocal management.
Mainly the workshop aims to impart high levels of VOCAL FITNESS, without which no singer is complete and good.
Course outline:
- Anatomy and functioning of the voice apparatus.
- Early warning signs of voice problems.
- Causes and description of various voice problems.
- Factors affecting the normal voice
- COMPUTERISED VOICE ASSESSMENT & ANALYSIS.
The individual's voice is fed into a computer and analysed with the help of voice analysing software. The results of these tests will guide us to manage the individual's voice. These tests are totally objective and carry a high degree of sensitivity. Even the earliest of voice problems can be picked up in the incipient stage, thereby giving us a chance to rectify them before permanent damage sets in.
- Vocal Fitness Exercise Regime:
- Posture
- Breathing exercises
- Vocal cord exercises.
- Neck and jaw exercises.
- Tongue and lip exercises
- Supervised voice rest regimes.
- Abuse/misuse of voice, and its hazards.
- Do's and don'ts for professional voice users.
- Dietary and lifestyle modifications.
- Voice and medications.
- Special care for singers.
- Learning to sing with breath support.
- Increasing vocal range.
- Avoiding pitch deviations.
- Do's and Don'ts on the day of performance
- Warm ups and cool downs on the day of performance.
- Increasing endurance. (Number of hours you can sing.)
At the end of the workshop, the student will be able to avoid misuse of voice and prevent most voice related problems. He/She will also be able to improve his/her speaking/singing voice as well as improve his/her endurance. Important things to do on the day of performance will be taught to the student. He/She will be able to recognise the early warning signs of vocal damage, and will even be able to troubleshoot minor problems.
