From acting on small screen to veejaying to anchoring and acting in films expressTalent actor Purab Kohli has been there and done all! This actor with a cute and mischievous smile was in Ahmedabad for the promotion of his recently released film Hide & Seek. We caught this talented actor in a relaxed mood and joined him for a chat as he gorged on idlis!
Ask him about his character in the film and he shares, “I play the character of a guy who is simple yet suffers a lot of complications in his head. And because of that he is depressed—and all this has a connection to his past which is the thrill element of the film.” And how was it working with producer Apoorva Lakhia and director Shawn Arranha? To this Purab says, “Apoorva as a producer took utmost care of us and as he belongs to Ahmedabad, he put us in great comfort level. About Shawn, he has done a remarkable job as director to the layout of story. I thoroughly enjoyed working with them.”
Now the talk veers towards his upcoming projects and he details, “I’ve two films lined up one is Ek Tho Chance and Josh-e-Jawaani. I always want to try new roles and one of the aspirations is to do an action flick. The talks are on but nothing has been finalised as of yet.” And how has been the shift for Purab from television stint to silver screen? “It wasn’t a difficult one.” So which project has been close to his heart? Purab replies, “My favourite stints have been Hip Hip Hurray, My Brother Nikhil and Rock On!! And, I thoroughly have enjoyed my character in film Awaarapan.”
And we quiz him how was the experience of shooting in Ahmedabad? “I was never so involved with the city I’ve shot in as I did when in Ahmedabad. It was Bas Yun Hi where I shot in Bangalore and the director was a localite so I could connect a lot to city. Similarly, Apoorva is so proud of Ahmedabad that he made us fond of Ahmedabad,” says Purab. He goes adding, “I’ve enjoyed my early morning jogs at Law Garden, I stood in queue to buy tasty khaman, I also watched New York in one of the old city based single screen theatres and I can’t tell you how much fun all this has been.
He confesses that Gujarati food is full of varieties and he relished them to his fullest. So we ask him if he is a foodie? And pat comes the reply, “Yes! I try all sort of food. My favourite cuisines are Japanese, Italian and Mediterranean. Also, Kerala food is a favourite.” Purab is genuinely fond of reading which includes fictions, novels and philosophical books. And what else he enjoys doing in his leisure time? “I love travelling, being with myself, my family, my dogs. Also, I love watching films, going for adventure tours and playing video games too.” Quite a fun-loving guy, isn’t he? |
